DoCoMo Selects Fujitsu, NEC for Super 3G System
September 26, 2008
Japanese Fujitsu announced on September 26 that the company and NTT DoCoMo have signed a cooperation agreement, whereby Fujitsu will supply core network EPC (Evolved Packet Core) systems supporting NTT DoCoMo's Super 3G, or 3.9G technology, according to a press release by Fujitsu. Further details, however, were not disclosed.

Prior to Fujitsu-DoCoMo agreement, NEC announced in early September that it would be a core network EPC system supplier for DoCoMo. NEC's shipments for DoCoMo are slated to begin in the fiscal year 2009, which runs from April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2009, the Nikkei reported, adding that DoCoMo's Super 3G systems are slated for commercialization in 2010. In related news, aside from core network systems, both Fujitsu and NEC have already been selected as DoCoMo's suppliers for Super 3G wireless base stations and mobile phones as well.
